Does anyone know what this symbolizes? Its name? Its origin?

It’s on Tribune Tower elevator doors.

    It’s a howling dog which was used as a design feature to commemorate one of the architects, John Mead Howells. (A Robin Hood was used to commemorate the other architect, Raymond Hood.)

    I’m going with . Being a symbol of social and political commentary, which is of course one of the functions of journalism… On the editiorial pages, at least.
